Campus Dialogue:

What is a Campus Dialogue? A Campus Dialogue provides us the brave space to critically examine one's own beliefs regarding their personal identities, while learning about other's identities through dialogue and discussion. Learning experiences will include: seminars, speakers, group activities, group dialogues. This campus dialogue's topic is: "What's LOVE got to do with it?!" Money, Power, and Racial Oppression  The historical and current oppression of Blacks in the United States is rooted in European capitalism and imperialism. African Americans have endured over 400 years of systemic racial violence and control that is not only the norm but is often regarded as ideal. Anti-Blackness is rampant in communities across America but yet most college students cannot fully grasp what it is. Racism has become less taboo to discuss in the last 5 years but we are still failing to address the heart of the matter. The subjugation of Black people has always been based on economics. White elites loved money and power more than human beings. African American were forced to function in a country that denied them love, resulting in great suffering. This presentation will illuminate the impact of being dominated by a group that do not love you and the need for our current generation to change the American value system from "The Love of money and power" to "The Love of People." We will unpack the internalization of anti-Blackness and steps we must take to eradicate it.

Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month: Dr. Pendakur - Event

OneSDSU will be hosting Dr. Sumun (Sumi) Pendakur for Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month. Dr. Pendakur serves as the Chief Learning Officer and Director of the USC Equity Institutes for the USC Race and Equity Center. She is a scholar-practitioner whose research interests are critical race theory, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students, change agents, and institutional transformation. Dr. Pendakur will be speaking about the importance of racial consciousness, institutional advocacy for AAPI students, and coalition-building with other communities of color. Since APA Heritage Month is in May and always falls during finals season, there are few opportunities for programming specific to this student community. It is important to at least honor and recognize this month and provide opportunities for students to reflect and appreciate their cultural background and ethnic identity. This event is open to the entire SDSU community.
